turning into a real nail-biter

What I believe is the first official review of the new book is now out there for public consumption. I have held my breath more with this book than with the others… possibly because, up until now, there’s been no real external feedback. My agent’s read it, my editor’s read it (and some of the promotional team) and my partner, but no authors have praised it to the stars, and no reviewers jumped in with advance praise. Nobody else had seen a copy of the book…

Until now.

The first verdict?

“A police procedural of the first order.”

“A vivid, noir portrait of the hard-scrabble small towns, ethnic tensions, dark urban corners, and deep forest environments of contemporary Canada, through the eyes of three fascinating, troubled investigators.”

There are a few more review copies on my shelf that I need to mail out. I suppose the only thing I need to worry about now is what to do with them.

It’s a highly complimentary review, though the reviewer gives away more of the book than I like to see.
